Thick as Thieves Duffel Bag

Description: Mel and Irwin used to be the dynamic duo. From home to home, their only constants were petty pranks and each other. But it’s been two years since Mel left, and Irwin has readjusted to life in the foster care system without his sister and partner-in-crime. Now, Mel is back – and she needs one final favour.

Playwright:  Wendy Chan
Wendy is an aspiring wordsmith born in the perilous suburbs of Mississauga, Ontario. After a year of studying and frolicking in a castle in southeast England, she found herself in the warm embrace of Vancouver, and soon after, the even warmer embrace of the UBC Creative Writing Program. She has dabbled in all styles, but finds comfort in fiction and stage play. She is a co-founder and emcee of Outwrite, the monthly reading series for Creative Writing BFA students. She enjoys airports, ampersands, and alliteration and is thrilled to be part of this year’s Brave New Play Rites Festival.

Director: Keenan Johnston
Keenan is a gamer, cosplayer, actor, emerging director and proud nerd. He is in his final year of studying Theatre at UBC, and is very excited to be making his directorial debut with Brave New Play Rites. He is also an executive member of the UBC Players Club. Past theatre credits include performing in Pirates? (2012) with Quimera Theatre Collective, This is Not a Porno (2013) with Scene and Herd Productions, Our Country’s Good (2012) and Festival Dionysia (2013, 2014) with the UBC Players Club, and A Memory A Monologue A Rant and A Prayer (2014) with UBC V-Day .
